Helping Skills Course


This professional training course is especially aimed at peer support - people affected by adoption helping other people affected by adoption, and supports you to be more helpful in helping others.


The course explores how to provide information and support to assist people affected by adoption (including support group participants) in the process of self-determination - to control their own life and to live well with adoption in their lives.


During the two-day course you will explore:


  • the helping relationship

  • skills you will use as a helper

  • triggers

  • the inner and outer journey of the adoption experience

  • seven core issues of adoption

  • mindfulness

  • parameters of the helping relationship

  • group facilitation

  • challenging situations in a group setting

  • self-care, debriefing and supervision
