On Tuesday, 11 November 2025, shortly after our President Dr Jo-Ann Sparrow was interviewed by Ellen Fanning on ABC Radio, we received this letter from the Director-General of the Department of Justice.

Thank you to everyone in our community who has fought so hard with us for two months to correct the Executive decision which removed access to information for people impacted by adoption.

Never underestimate what we can achieve when we work together.

We welcome today's confirmation from the Department of Justice that access to identifying information will be restored.

We are relieved that this long-standing practice has finally been reinstated. However, we wish this issue had been handled more swiftly and with greater care and transparency, given the significant distress and confusion it has caused to many members of our community.

Jigsaw Queensland will be making a submission to the Current Commission of Inquiry into the Queensland Child Protection System and the review of the Adoption Act 2009. We will call for these information rights to be enshrined in legislation so that future generations are protected and no Queenslander impacted by adoption ever has to endure such an experience again.
